FIR registered against PG owner, CM vows action

The MCD has ordered the demolition of Building No. 13 in Satya Niketan, declaring the property unsafe and dangerous to occupants, passersby and nearby residents.

The owner has been given three days to comply. If the order is ignored, the MCD will carry out the demolition and recover the expenses as tax dues.

Rescue teams are still working at the Satya Niketan collapse site as officials search through the rubble. The death toll has reached six.

The NDRF, fire personnel, Delhi Police and other teams are clearing debris and checking the area for survivors as the operation continues.

Sri Venkateswara College of the University of Delhi will remain closed today following the tragic Satya Niketan building collapse.

As several nearby PG accommodations have been closed, the college said it is temporarily accommodating affected students in classrooms.

One more body has been recovered from the debris at the Satya Niketan building collapse site, taking the death toll to six.

Search and rescue operations are still underway as teams continue to look for people who may remain trapped inside the collapsed building. ANI

Anmol Yadav, whose friend Neeraj was trapped in the Satya Niketan collapse, said, “My friend Neeraj called us saying that he is trapped here.” He said Neeraj was pinned down from the pelvic area and remained trapped for nearly two hours.

“Eventually, the NDRF personnel and the police worked together to get him out,” Anmol said. He also blamed the lack of DU hostel facilities, saying students are forced to choose “cheap, run-down PGs.” ANI

Following the Satya Niketan building collapse, nearby PG accommodations have been vacated and messes have been closed as a precaution.

NSUI workers have reached the area with food for affected students and are also helping arrange temporary accommodation for those who have been displaced.

Rescue operations continued at a five-storey PG accommodation in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan after the building collapsed on Sunday afternoon.

The incident left five people dead, while officials said around 15-20 people were feared trapped under the debris. Multiple agencies were involved in the rescue operation, which continued through the night. PTI

Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal said police received a PCR call around 1:30 PM about the Satya Niketan building collapse.

“Some students were trapped inside,” he said, adding that police rescued some and sent them to hospital. “So far, a total of 10 students have been rescued,” Poswal said, while five were declared dead at the hospital.

He confirmed that “We have registered an FIR” and said a team was sent to apprehend the building owner. The NDRF-led rescue operation continues. ANI

Priyanshi said, “I have no idea where he is,” after her brother Pawan went missing following the Satya Niketan building collapse.

She said she checked AIIMS but could not find him. NSUI president Vinod Jakhar said, “We hope that he is safe. We pray to God that he is safe.” ANI

The MCD has ordered that all illegal constructions above four floors be sealed immediately. It also said strict action will be taken against officials found responsible, including immediate dismissal. The orders will come into effect immediately. ANI

NSUI president Vinod Jakhar described the South Delhi building collapse as a tragedy.

Speaking to PTI, he said students were trapped under the debris and quoted one student pleading, “Please get me out. I don’t want to die. I want to live.”

He added that the NSUI team was among the first to reach the spot and help with the rescue.

AIIMS Trauma Centre has received 10 patients from the Satya Niketan building collapse.

Five have died, including four brought dead and one who later succumbed to injuries.

Three patients are undergoing treatment, one has undergone limb surgery, and one was discharged after observation.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has questioned the Delhi government after a PG building collapse, raising concerns over educational infrastructure and student safety. In a post on X, Dipke asked how long students will continue to suffer due to poor facilities.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Before the rescue agencies arrived, students and locals dug through the debris of the collapsed PG in south Delhi's Satya Niketan on Sunday, and formed a human chain to remove the rubble piece by piece in the hope of reaching those buried underneath.

The collapse, which took place at around 1.30 pm, turned a narrow lane near Delhi University's South Campus into a site of frantic rescue operation. Students rushed to where the building stood only minutes ago, many looking for friends and juniors who lived in the five-storey building, while locals began pulling away whatever they could with their bare hands.

"We heard a very loud rumbling sound and suddenly the chairs we were sitting on started shaking. It felt like an earthquake. Then we saw a huge cloud of dust moving towards the right," said Abhishek Mishra, a first-year student at Delhi University's Law Faculty, who was near the building.

"Everyone started running towards the building. There were a lot of students and locals at the spot. We all pitched in and started removing the debris," he said.

Students and residents began passing the smaller pieces of debris from one person to another, as they tried to create space for people to enter the wreckage. "We formed a human chain because there was so much rubble and it had to be cleared quickly," he added.

They removed plates, plastic bottles, broken pipes, toilet parts, chunks of concrete and twisted iron rods by hand.

JCB machines was brought in to clear the heavier rubble, but students continued to help, picking through parts of the rubble that could not be shifted mechanically.

"I knew many of the students who were staying there. That is why when the building collapsed, students from around the area immediately came out. Nobody was standing there waiting to be told what to do. People just started helping," he said.

The five-storey structure, which housed a boys' hostel, was a nearly 30-year-old G 4 building constructed on an area of around 55 square yards in a resettlement colony where permission was granted only for a G 1 unit, a senior MCD official said.

The official said the collapsed building violated norms and was only allowed to build a ground floor plus the first floor.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Tensions escalated at the Satya Niketan building collapse site in South-West Delhi on Sunday as National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers clashed during the ongoing rescue operations.
