SSP Mahatta said his family told the police that Khargeswar Rabha had been under medical treatment for liver ailments
A deputy superintendent of police-rank officer was found dead in a hotel room in Bongaigaon town on Thursday, police said.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Bongaigaon district, Numal Mahatta, said Khargeswar Rabha (56) was attached to the chief minister’s special vigilance cell.
“We arrived at the scene after hotel employees informed us that Rabha, who had booked the hotel room and checked in on October 18, was not seen coming out of his room,” Mahatta said.
“Once the room was opened, the police officer’s body was found lying on the bed. A magistrate was informed and the body was sent for post-mortem. Prima facie, there appears to be no foul play,” he added.
Mahatta said the officer was staying alone in the room.According to his family members, Rabha had been suffering from liver ailments and was under medical treatment.
“We are awaiting results of the post-mortem,” the senior police officer said.
He added that officers were also contacting his colleagues, relatives and others who figure in his phone’s recent call history.
