Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on Thursday, “Due to rising water level in Yamuna, Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla water treatment plants have to be closed. Due to this there will be water problem in some areas of Delhi. As soon as the Yamuna water recedes, we will try to start them as soon as possible.”

PWD (Public Works Department) Minister Atishi on flood-like situation said, “Yamuna River is bound to overflow its banks when the water goes up to this level. The 'nalas' around Yamuna are also filled with water, because of which the areas around Yamuna, especially ISBT, Ring Road, and ITO are facing waterlogging. Humans cannot control the flow of the water. We are constantly in touch with Haryana to ensure that they release the least amount of water so that the situation doesn't get worse. We are evacuating people in water-logged areas and transferring them to relief camps...Water has also entered several roads in Delhi as well. The PWD has closed such roads.”

“We have about 3,700 total routes. If we talk about today, the operation of around 1,200 routes is suspended. The majority of them are in the Kullu district...rest are from Mandi, upper Shimla and tribal areas. The good thing is, in the past 24 hours around 250 routes have been cleared. So by today, we are expecting around 200-250 routes to be operational. Till yesterday, around 615 buses have been stuck in landslide-prone areas. However today, the 316 buses are stuck...The overall situation has improved in the last 24 hours,” says Rohan Chand Thakur (Managing Director, Himachal Pradesh Road & Transport Corporation)

Schools to be closed in flooded areas of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal announces

More water was released from Hathnikund Barrage by Haryana government officials earlier today amid rise in water levels of Yamuna.

Water level crossed the 754-feet mark in Ghaggar river in Moonak in Punjab and it started overflowing. Officials said that it is for the first time since 1993 floods when the water is reached at such high level.

In Madhya Pradesh, River Narmada crosses the danger level of 123.500 metres and flows at the level of 124.360 metres at Rajghat in Barwani. The adjacent areas have been vacated.

SDM Ghanshyam Dhangar says that though the river is flowing above danger level at Rajghat, the area has already been vacated. Administration is monitoring the situation.

As rescue operation continues in flood-hit Himachal Pradesh, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)'s joint rescue operations successfully saved 28 shepherds/trekkers stranded in Kinnaur’s Kara area on Wednesday.

According to the officials, due to rising water levels, 11 people were trapped 15 kilometers from Kafnu village following incessant rainfall in the state.

On July 10th, the NDRF team, along with Indo-Tibetan Boder Police (ITBP) and Home Guard personnel, embarked on the rescue mission, overcoming road blockages and staying overnight at a local school.

Several parts of Chennai, the capital of of Tamil Nadu, received heavy rains during wee hours of Thursday.

Areas like Arumbakkam, Koyambedu, Moggapair, Maduravayol and Poonamallee witnessed the sudden spell of rains. Visuals from the city showed commmuters facing inconveninece in reaching their destination due to rains.

Earlier in the day, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai forecasted about moderate thunderstorms over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram and Thiruvannamalai districts in Tamil Nadu.

Following incessant rainfall in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, the Badrinath National Highway (NH-7) is blocked due to falling of boulders and debris from the hill, on highway near Pipalkotim, officials said on Thursday morning.

The same highway got at other several other places including Pagalnala, Gulabkoti and Helang following the landslides taking place in the region as rains continues.

Taking precautionary measures Chamoli district administration has stopped pilgrims at safer places like Gauchar, Karnprayag, and Nandprayag.

As an intense spell of monsoon rain continued over the northwestern Himalayan region numerous roads were blocked and several people were stuck due to landslides.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday issued an advisory for some of the cremation grounds near the Yamuna river in view of its rising water level following incessant rainfall.

MCD said that there is a possibility of water entering into the Nigam Bodh Ghat which can hamper cremation activities, and requested people to not to use the cremation ground. The civic body has advised people to use nearby cremation grounds instead.

“There is a possibility of water entering into the Nigam Bodh Ghat hampering the cremation-related activities. Therefore, general public is advised to take the dead bodies of their near and dear to the nearby cremation grounds i.e. Panchkuyian Road, Sat Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Green Park, Dakshinpuri or preferably near their colony,” MCD said.

The water level of Delhi's Yamuna river reached 208.46m on Thursday morning, a day after the river breached the all-time high record of 207.49m. On Tuesday night itself, the water had reached 207.99m.

As a result of flooding, several low-lying areas near the Yamuna River have been affected leading to water being pushed on the roads, waterlogging issues and traffic congestion.

The Garhi Mandu village near Signature Bridge in Wazirabad has been submerged.

As many as 1,058 villages of 14 districts in Punjab are affected by floods, according to an official statement.

The affected villages include 364 in Rupnagar, 268 in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 250 in Patiala, 71 in Jalandhar, 30 in Moga, 25 in Hoshiarpur, 16 in Ludhiana, three each in Sangrur and Ferozepur, and six in Tarn Taran, it said.

At gaushalas in Brahman Majra, Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib, 800 bovines have been saved is rescue operations, the statement issued here said.

“More than 5,500 vehicles have crossed Mandi en route to Chandigarh; Vehicles that were stuck in Aut also cleared. Over 2000 tourists from Kasol have come downhill to safer locations,” said Himachal Pradesh Acting DGP, Satwant Atwal Trivedi while sharing details of operations underway in the various locations of the state to rescue locals and tourists.

The Central Water Commission estimated that the Yamuna could swell to 207.99 metres on Wednesday night- an unprecedented danger mark. As the water level in the Yamuna River in Delhi breached the 45-year record of 207.49 metres and reached 208.05 metres on Wednesday, thousands of people were forced to leave their homes in low-lying areas.

According to the Delhi government as part of its evacuation plan, a total of 16,564 people living in low-lying areas have been evacuated to safer places and 14,534 are living in tents/shelters, across the city.
