Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Will Congress’ Abhijit Mukherjee will third-time lucky in Bengal’s Jangipur

The son of former president Pranab Mukherjee, Abhijit Mukherjee had won against Muzaffar Hussain of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) for the second time in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Abhijit had held the Jangipur Lok Sabha since 2009 when he had defeated Hussain.

Jangipur is one of the 42 parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal and is represented by Congress’ Abhijit Mukherjee since the last two Lok Sabha terms.

Voting in Jangipur will be held during the third out of the seven-phased Lok Sabha election on April 23. The result will be declared on May 23.(PTI)

Pranab Mukherjee was the sitting member of Parliament for two terms from 2004 to 2009 and then from 2009 to 2012 when by-polls were held on the Jangipur seat.

The Congress and the CPI(M) have won the seat seven times each since elections were held in 1967.
