Man caught smoking inside Dubai-Mumbai IndiGo flight, case filed
The incident prompted the flight crew to immediately intervene and report the matter to Mumbai's Sahara police station after the flight landed.
A male passenger was caught smoking inside the toilet of Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight midair that was flying from Dubai on August 3, news agency ANI reported.
The passenger identified as Kavraj Tagat Singh, a resident of Rajasthan, was found smoking in the toilet of flight after one of the crew members got cigarette smell coming from the loo.
After the investigation, a burnt cigarette was found in the loo and the passenger was asked by the crew as to why he had smoked after he gave them a lighter and a cigarette pack.
The incident prompted the flight crew to immediately intervene and report the matter to Mumbai's Sahara police station after the flight landed.
As per the official, as soon as the flight landed in Mumbai, a case was registered at Sahar Police Station under the section 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for endangering life or personal safety of others and Section 25 of the Aircraft Rules.
This is not the first case of passenger being caught smoking cigarettes inside the flight.
In March 2023, a passenger was arrested at the Bengaluru airport after she was caught smoking inside a IndiGo flight that was flying from Kolkata. The cabin crew inside the flight found a cigarette in the dustbin. A case was registered against her after she was handed over to the police for endangering human life or the personal safety of other passengers.
