Operation Sindoor LIVE: All-party meeting about strikes today

Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar said lauded Operation Sindoor and said that justice has certainly been delivered.

"It is certainly a day of satisfaction that our armed forces and government have stepped up and ensured that the 26 families get justice," he told PTI.

Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan hailed Operation Sindoor and said during a press conference, "It was right time to take a decisive and bold action, it was a commendable job done by the Indian armed forces, we appreciate them, stand by them, we want to tell PM Modi, we stand by you sir, whatever decision you will take, we are with you."

The central government has called for an all-party meeting on Thursday, May 8, at 11 am. 

During the Cabinet meeting held at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Indian armed forces' ‘Operation Sindoor’, news agency PTI reported, citing sources. 

More than 200 flights were cancelled and at least 18 airports, including Srinagar, have been temporarily shut for operations in the wake of Operation Sindoor by Indian armed forces.

News agency PTI reported citing sources that over 200 flights to and from various airports have been cancelled by airlines, with IndiGo alone cancelling around 160 flights.

Pakistan chief military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, "Pakistan reserves the right and will respond to this aggression at a time, place and means of our own choice."

A senior police officer in Poonch said that 10 persons were killed and 45 injured in Pakistan shelling in Poonch.

"People are being evacuated to Surankote. Some of them going to relatives' houses in safer places," the officer added.

Pakistan chief military spokesperson has said that 26 persons have been killed and 46 injured at six locations in Indian strikes.

The spokesperson also claimed that the strikes targeted the Neelam-Jhelum hydropower project and Nauseri Dam.

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut said, "God protect those who protect us... we all are praying that our country stays safe from every danger. We are standing with the prime minister. We have avenged the brutal killings of our people. We pray for our country's success."

Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, as quoted by state news agency TASS, said, "We are deeply concerned about the intensifying military confrontation between India and Pakistan after the terrorist attack near the city of Pahalgam."Russia strongly condemns acts of terrorism, opposes any of its manifestations and emphasises the need to unite the efforts of the entire world community to effectively combat this evil, Zakharova said.

“We call on the parties involved to exercise restraint in order to prevent further deterioration of the situation in the region," the spokesperson said.

Zakharova added, "We hope that the differences between New Delhi and Islamabad will be resolved through peaceful, political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis in accordance with the provisions of the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999."

Former chief of Army staff of the Indian Army, General Shankar Roychowdhury, spoke to news agency PTI and hailed "Operation Sindoor", describing it as a "great operation with excellent planning".

General Roychowdhury, who was the army chief from November 1994 to September 1997, also said, "India should continue hammering them (Pakistan). In Hindi, there is a term laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi mante'... They are like that. There is no war-like situation. It's already an undeclared war."

"I think that India should continue striking again and again. We have to continue replying to their terror attacks with low-intensity conflict," the General said.

Pahalgam terror attack survivor Tilak Rupachandani on Wednesday thanked the Indian armed forces for Operation Sindoor.

"Thanks to the Indian Army. They have taken remarkable action and we are happy with this. Terrorists had killed innocent people there; we had seen it...we had hoped that government would take good action," he told ANI.

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar hailed Operation Sindoor and wrote on X, "Fearless in unity. Boundless in strength. India's shield is her people. There's no room for terrorism in this world. We're One Team! Jai Hind."

Ansari said that if anyone conspires against India, then it will waste no time to give a response.

He hailed the Indian armed forces and PM Modi for 'Operation Sindoor'.

"On behalf of the country, I thank the Indian Army and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving a strong response to the cowardly terrorist act that took place in Pahalgam," Ansari told ANI.

"India has shown that if anyone conspires against India, it will waste no time in giving a befitting response," he added.

The Kartarpur corridor at Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur district has been shut for the day, officials said on Wednesday.

The development came after India successfully carried out Operation Sindoor on nine terror sites in Pakistan and PoK.

The Kartarpur corridor links the Darbar Sahib gurudwara in Pakistan, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district.

The BJP on Wednesday hailed the Indian armed forces' 'Operation Sindoor' and said that the "new India" under PM Modi's leadership is capable and resolute to uproot terrorism.

Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar says 10 members of his family and four close associates were killed in India's Operation Sindoor strikes, BBC reported.

The statement also reportedly said that "this atrocity has broken all norms, no one should hope for mercy now."

Pakistan defence minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said that Islamabad is ready to "wrap up" tensions with India, if New Delhi de-escalates the situation.

"We have been saying all along in the last fortnight that we’ll never initiate anything hostile towards India. But if we're attacked, we'll respond. If India backs down, we will definitely wrap up this tension," he was reported as saying by Bloomberg TV.

In view of the prevailing situation in the nation following ‘Operation Sindoor’, Prime minister Narendra Modi's visit to Norway, Croatia, and the Netherlands has been cancelled. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the Indian armed forces' operation name: 'Operation Sindoor', news agency PTI reported.

The choice of name was deliberate — and deeply emotional. The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly male tourists, left behind a trail of heartbreak. Wives, still wearing indoor — the symbol of marriage — were seen weeping, their lives shattered in an instant. That image struck a chord across the country. The operation’s name, “Sindoor”, became a tribute to them — to love lost, to families torn apart, and to the pain that demanded justice.

Pakistan's foreign ministry said that the Indian Chargé d’Affaires was summoned "to receive Pakistan’s strong protest over the unprovoked Indian strikes at multiple locations across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir", Reuters reported.

"It was conveyed that India’s blatant act of aggression constitutes a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty. Such actions are in contravention of the UN Charter, international law, and established norms governing inter-state relations. Pakistan firmly rejected India’s baseless justifications for its hostile conduct," it said in a statement.

"The Indian side was warned that such reckless behavior poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability," it added.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said that in view of the recent developments, he has directed the immediate release of contingency funds to all the Deputy Commissioners.

"Officials have been instructed to counter misinformation and urge the public to rely only on verified sources. Let’s stand united and resilient," he added.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal hailed the Indian armed forces on the successful execution of Operation Sindoor and said congratulated them.

"I congratulate the Army, the Air Force, the defence services, and the fact of the matter is that this denial cannot continue for decades to come. We have been targets of terrorism which is manufactured in Pakistan. They have factories of terrorism like Lashkar-e-taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e- Mohammed (JeM). We have to put a stop to it. Pakistan should not think that they will go unpunished. So, I congratulate the government and the defence services for having carried this out," he told news agency ANI.

He pressed that nobody can enter Indian territory, kill innocent people and get away with it and then also deny having anything to do with it.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said that 'Operation Sindoor' is a strong response by the Indian armed forces and said it showed that India will never tolerate terrorism.

"#OperationSindoor is a strong response by @adgpi, hitting at the terror hubs in Pakistan. India shall never tolerate terrorism," Sitharaman posted on X.

The US mission in Pakistan on Wednesday issued a security alert, advising American citizens to leave areas of active conflict amid escalating tension in the region following India's Operation Sindoor.

The security alert, titled ‘Military Activity and Closed Airspace’, said, “We are aware of reports of military strikes by India into Pakistan. This remains an evolving situation, and we are closely monitoring developments.

"US citizens are reminded of the 'Do Not Travel' advisory for areas in the vicinity of the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict, and the US Department of State’s 'Reconsider Travel' advisory for Pakistan generally,” the alert said.

“We are also aware that airspace has been closed, and many flights have been cancelled,” it added.
