PM Modi Kyrgyzstan Visit LIVE: PM lands in Kyrgyzstan, will take part in SCO Summit in Bishkek

Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched cultural performances at a hotel in Bishkek as he received a warm welcome from members of the Indian diaspora.

On PM Modi's visit, Vinod Verma, an Indian student, told ANI, "We are very excited to meet PM Modi here. It feels really great that we will be able to meet our Prime Minister..."

Another Indian student, Sharad Dongre, said, "We are very excited that PM Modi is coming here. A total of 25 students from our college have come here to receive PM Modi..."

On PM Modi's visit, Deepak Joshi, an Indian national, told news agency ANI, "It is kind of an honour and great privilege that the Prime Minister is coming here. So much transformation has taken place in the last 12 years that it's unbelievable, and PM Modi deserves huge credit for this. I come from Uttarakhand. My father's village got electricity in 2017... For Defence, he has done wonders. We have seen it in Operation Sindoor... We as NRIs feel absolutely honoured that the value of our passports, the respect, and everything have changed in the last 10-12 years."

PM Modi had landed in Bishkek for the SCO Summit.

During the visit, India and Uzbekistan decided to elevate their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership and set a target of USD 5 billion in annual trade by 2030 following talks between PM Modi and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The two sides inked 11 agreements to boost engagement in several key sectors, including mining and tourism, and agreed to establish a framework for the long-term supply of Uranium from Uzbekistan to India, in line with cooperation in the civil nuclear energy sector.

The Modi-Mirziyoyev talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, critical minerals, mining, defence and security, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, health, information technology, digital public infrastructure, including UPI, and education.

The two sides also set the target of USD 5 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2030, Modi said in his press statement. The current volume of bilateral trade between the two nations is over USD 1 billion.

Both leaders announced the elevation of India-Uzbekistan strategic ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting the growing depth and scope of cooperation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which will also be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders from the member countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed from Uzbekistan for Kyrgyzstan. He will arrive in Bishkek today to participate in the 26th SCO Summit.

The BJP on Sunday hailed the conferment of Uzbekistan's highest state honour on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "proud moment for every Indian" and said it reflects the growing "global recognition" of his leadership and India's influence.

Modi was on Sunday conferred with Uzbekistan's prestigious 'Oliy Darajali Do'stlik' Order, which he dedicated to the "enduring" bond between India and Uzbekistan.

The prime minister is in Uzbekistan on a two-day visit to bolster ties in a range of areas, including trade, clean energy and connectivity.

Modi was conferred with the honour by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Congratulating the prime minister on being conferred with the prestigious award, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on X, "A grand moment of pride for every Indian, as the Modi doctrine of diplomacy pushes new frontiers, bolstering the voice of the Global South and advancing our civilisational goal of the welfare of humankind by fortifying bonds between nations."

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said this prestigious recognition is a testimony to PM Modi's "visionary leadership" and his "steadfast efforts" to deepen the enduring friendship between India and Uzbekistan.

"It is also a proud affirmation of India's rising global stature, growing influence and the strong partnerships that New India is building across the world. It is a moment of great pride for 1.4 billion Indians," Singh said on X.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the award is a recognition of PM Modi's "steadfast efforts" to deepen India-Uzbekistan friendship.

"Pleased to witness the conferment of Uzbekistan's Highest Award for Foreign Leaders, 'Oliy Darajali Do'stlik' Order on PM @narendramodi," he wrote on X.

"Confident that this honour, along with the landmark visit, will provide a new momentum to our ties," he added.

BJP president Nitin Nabin hailed the conferment of the award on Modi as a "proud moment for every Indian" and said it reflects the growing "global recognition" of his leadership.

"As the 36th international state honour bestowed upon PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, it reflects the growing global recognition of his leadership and India's rising stature, while celebrating the enduring bond of friendship and partnership between India and Uzbekistan," the BJP chief said on X.

In a post on X, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the conferment of the prestigious award on PM Modi reflects his efforts to deepen India-Uzbekistan relations and underscores India's "rising global stature".

Congratulating the prime minister on being honoured with Uzbekistan's highest state award, Union minister J P Nadda said this marks PM Modi's 35th global recognition, reflecting the world's appreciation for his leadership, commitment to global peace and vision for development.

"India's global rise, recognised!" Nadda said in a post on X.

"A proud moment for 140 crore Indians and a testament to the enduring friendship between India and Uzbekistan," he added.

Uzbekistan on Sunday introduced a 30-day visa-free regime for Indian citizens, with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev saying the move will make a significant contribution to strengthening people-to-people contacts, tourism and business exchanges between the two countries.

Mirziyoyev made the announcement during the delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tashkent, as part of the latter's two-day State visit to Uzbekistan.

MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George also said, "Another important development is the UPI rollout for Uzbekistan. It adds to the global expansion of Indian digital infrastructure, which helps further digital transactions between our two countries. An MOU on mining was signed, which will support collaboration on critical minerals, including the uranium supply. Infrastructure development is another important area. Several Indian companies are already expanding their footprint in Uzbekistan..."

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Uzbekistan, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George told the media, "Positive discussions have happened on a long-term arrangement for the supply of uranium to India. We are close to signing an agreement very shortly. The level of bilateral ties between the two countries has been raised to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which, as I mentioned, includes a Foreign Minister-level Coordination Group and raising the level of the Joint Commission Meeting, or the Intergovernmental Commission, from the Secretary level to the Ministerial level. A Business Summit will be held to boost economic ties, and both sides will work on a long-term arrangement for the supply of Uranium. Both sides also set a target of bilateral trade of $5 billion by 2030. That is in the next three years."

India and Uzbekistan will cooperate in agriculture and healthcare, scale up working in traditional medicines, and encourage educational and cultural exchanges.

Both countries will also work together to conserve Uzbekistan’s Buddhist heritage sites and to expand youth exchange programmes.

On PM Modi's visit, Zara Beiim Gasanova, a Kyrgyzstan national studying Hindi at the Indian embassy in Bishkek, told news agency ANI, "Since my childhood, I was in love with India, Indian culture, movies, and songs. Since then, I have been very interested in India. When I saw the opportunity from the Embassy of India in Kyrgyzstan, where they announced that they were opening a Hindi class, I was very excited. I immediately joined the class and started learning Hindi. My favourite movie, I think, is Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Veer-Zaara... The relationship between India and Kyrgyzstan is very good, and a lot of students are studying here, including Indian students. I also think it will be very good for business and tourism..."
