Rajani Patil is Congress in-charge for Himachal Pradesh

The appointment of 58-year-old leader, who hails from Maharashtra, was approved by Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.

Former Rajya Sabha member Rajani Patil has been named as the new in-charge of Congress in Himachal Pradesh.

The appointment of 58-year-old leader, who hails from Maharashtra, was approved by All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.

She replaces AICC general secretary and former Maharashtra chief minister Shushil Kumar Shinde who was appointed in-charge for Himachal ahead of assembly polls.“Party appreciates hard work and contribution of Shushil Kumar Shinde who will be stepping down from his responsibility as AICC general secretary in-charge for Himachal affairs,” stated a release issued by AICC general secretary Ashok Ghelot.

Patil was elected to the Rajya Sabha on in 2013 in the byelection, following the death of former Maharashtra chief minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh. Earlier, she was elected member of the Lok Sabha from Beed in Maharashtra in 1996 when she was with the BJP.
