Delhi building collapse LIVE: A neighbour of Akshat Yadav’s family, Deepak Khamparia, said the family was initially told that Akshat had been rescued after the Satya Niketan building collapse, but he was declared dead the following morning.

"We received the news yesterday evening... his parents left for Delhi last night... we had heard news of his rescue last night, but this morning he was declared dead... The boy had secured admission to Delhi University last year. He was a promising student... We have heard that the post-mortem has been conducted and the body will be brought here tonight..."

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on X described the Satya Niketan building collapse as "no isolated tragedy", alleging that the BJP government repeatedly fails to prevent such incidents and acts only after disasters occur.

"Every time, the BJP government follows the same shameful pattern—no prevention before accidents, just grandstanding after them, pinning blame on a few low-level officers, while the real culprits remain unaccountable.

The collapse of the building packed with students at Satya Niketan is no isolated tragedy. In the last 4 months, 6 people died in a similar disaster in Saidulajab, and a fire in Hauz Rani claimed 22 lives. Every time, lives, dreams, and aspirations get buried under rubble—and every time, any real action is nowhere to be found.

And when you demand accountability, the Prime Minister himself slaps you with insulting labels like "brainwashed Naxal, grumpy uncle"—the intent being to shame, defame, and silence anyone who dares to ask questions.

For 12 years, this government has spun you around with lofty talk about the whole world, but never addressed the real issues. Delhi has a "triple engine" government, so what's the excuse for this helplessness now?

The helplessness stems from a lack of intent—because where there's no intent, there's no accountability either.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Congress MP Manoj Kumar expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the Satya Niketan building collapse and criticised the authorities over what he described as a lack of timely action.

"Congress party and I extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their children and loved ones... There have been hotel fires before this, resulting in numerous deaths... It is only when a fire breaks out in a hotel, or when a hotel or hostel collapses—like the incident that happened yesterday—that the MCD officials finally show up and the Chief Minister wakes up..."

Delhi building collapse LIVE: The FIR was registered under three sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings) and Section 125 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others).

Delhi building collapse LIVE: The Delhi High Court observed that the responsibility for the Satya Niketan building collapse does not, prima facie, lie solely with the owner of the PG hostel.

"The responsibility prima facie in our opinion for such mishaps do not lie solely on the owner of PG hostel but the responsible goes to the university authorities and MCD which is responsible to ensure that every single development in Delhi such as construction of building is carried out as per building bye laws or other regulations regulating such developments."

Delhi building collapse LIVE: The Delhi High Court has directed the MCD to conduct an inquiry at the highest executive level into the collapse of the building at Satya Niketan, terming the incident “unfortunate”.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: According to NDRF officials at the spot, rescue teams have scanned the affected area and there are now negligible chances of another casualty being found in the debris.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Yuvraj Soni, a second-year student at Motilal Nehru College, was among those identified as dead in the Satya Niketan building collapse. His sister, Nikki Soni, said the family was still struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Soni, who was preparing for the Chartered Accountancy (CA) examinations, had moved into the PG only a few days before the building collapsed. According to his friend Aryan, who was with the family, Soni had earlier been living in a PG in North Campus and had recently decided to move out.

"Earlier he was living in North campus and was looking to move out of is old Pg and then had just moved to the new one.," informed one of the friends, Aryan who was with the family.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: CPI Rajya Sabha member P Sandosh Kumar visited the Satya Niketan building collapse site on Monday and expressed solidarity with the students and their families.

Kumar said there was still no information about some workers and called for a proper inquiry into the incident. He also blamed corruption for repeated such incidents and said those responsible must be held accountable.

“We stand with the students and their families. We still do not have any information about the workers. We hope this will be the last such accident. These incidents keep happening repeatedly, and the only reason for this is corruption. Corruption is the root cause. Therefore, whoever is responsible should be held accountable. This should be investigated... I have come here to extend support, and I stand with the families. But such incidents should not happen in the coming days. Therefore, there should be a proper inquiry into this.”

Delhi building collapse LIVE: AIIMS has so far provided details of five of the deceased in the Satya Niketan building collapse:

Akshat Yadav, a native of Katni, Madhya Pradesh, was a second-year BCom student at PGDAV College. His family received his body after the postmortem.

Pawan Nath, a first-year BSc student at Motilal College, was a native of Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name is Vishamber Nath. His family received the body after the postmortem.

Abhishek Kumar, a student at Motilal College, was a native of Varanasi. Further details have been provided to AIIMS.

Arpit Jai, 18, was a native of Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. His family received his body after the postmortem.

Yuvraj, a native of Chhattisgarh, was identified by his friends. His family is yet to reach AIIMS for final identification.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: AIIMS has so far received 12 patients following the Satya Niketan building collapse, with seven declared dead or brought dead and five others receiving treatment.

Among those who died, two were declared dead on arrival, while five were brought dead. The deceased include four unidentified men and three identified patients, according to the AIIMS status report. Patients who survived:

Asgar Ali, 30 — critical

Krishna, 30 — stable and discharged

Neeraj Bawa, 19 — critical

Aditya Kumar, 19 — critical

Nitish Chib, 19 — stable

The AIIMS records show that the patients were received between September 6 and September 7.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Informing on the action taken against officials in view of the Satya Niketan building collapse, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa says, "See, strongest action has been taken, 5 officials have been suspended, a clear message was given, any kind of illegal activities, violation of building bye-laws, there will be action. There was a meeting of the MLAs, the CM asked them for strict compliance. It will not be tolerated. A strict action was taken." (PTI)

Delhi building collapse LIVE: On the Satya Niketan building collapse, NSUI All India Congress Committee in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar questioned the pace of the rescue operation and sought answers on the number of people killed or still trapped.

Kanhaiya Kumar said, "This is a very unfortunate situation. Nearly 24 hours have passed, yet the relief and rescue operation in the national capital, Delhi, has still not been completed. Debris nearly one-and-a-half storeys high, including debris from the basement, is still lying there. There is no concrete information on how many people have lost their lives or how many remain trapped under the debris. This raises several serious questions. First, does the life of a student have no value in this country?"

Delhi building collapse LIVE: On the Satya Niketan building collapse, Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that several BJP leaders own properties in the area and accused the MCD of failing to act against illegal paying guest (PG) accommodations.

Bharadwaj said, "See, since yesterday, people are saying on social media, the BJP leaders own properties, there is a loot happening on the name of the PG, MCD is not acting, the reason is, many big leaders have properties here. Our demand is to Rekha Gupta to make public the names of people having properties here, there is a PG mafia, PG syndicate here, the government should make hostels here, till the time it is made, the government should pay the fees of PG, then only they will be made."

Delhi building collapse LIVE: The owner of the building, Hariram Gupta, has been apprehended from Bhiwadi, said cops.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Delhi's civic body suspended five officials, including a deputy commissioner, on Monday, a day after a building that housed a PG facility collapsed in Satya Niketan area.

The action from MCD comes less than 24 hours after a building in Satya Niketan collapsed, killing at least seven.

MCD commissioner Sanjiv Khirwar told HT that officials have "zero tolerance" against unauthorised construction and that the building department will be made accountable in such cases.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Nitin Jamwal, a former resident of the hostel, recalled poor conditions inside the building. “Everything here was bad. The walls were cracking, the basement used to fill up with water,” he told HT. His friend Niteesh Chib was among those initially trapped and was later rescued.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Eighteen-year-old college student Akshat from Madhya Pradesh’s Katni was among those who died in the Satya Niketan building collapse.

Akshat’s neighbour from Katni, Vijay Kumar Rajak, told ANI, "Yesterday, we got information that the building Akshat resided in has collapsed. Immediately, we rushed to Delhi. Upon reaching here, we got to know that he had passed away. He wanted to become an IAS officer. He had returned to Delhi only two days ago, after Raksha Bandhan. I had spoken to him the day before yesterday. His body was identified by a scar on his leg. We are awaiting the PM (post-mortem) to be concluded."

Delhi building collapse LIVE: SK Sharma, neighbour of Hariram Bansal, the alleged owner of the building, says, "Bansal Ji's shop is in the market, our relationship is simply that we occasionally buy goods from his store; he has a decent personality. He has been living here for years. He owns several other houses here as well; his daughter and son also live nearby in Sector 23. He owns a hardware shop. I have no idea about Delhi; I don't know if he owns a house in Satya Niketan or anything like that, but he does have four or five properties here." (ANI)

Delhi building collapse LIVE: RJD Rajya Sabha member and Delhi University professor Manoj Kumar Jha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking intervention following the Satya Niketan building collapse that killed seven people.

Jha called for an impartial investigation and raised questions over reports of structural violations, accumulated water and construction or repair work at the building.

Jha said the limited hostel capacity at Delhi University forces thousands of students to seek accommodation in private rentals around its campuses and colleges. He said students often have little information about the structural safety, fire preparedness, sanitation and legal status of such buildings.

He asked the Centre to announce a dedicated fund for the construction of public hostels for DU students. He also called for a time-bound student housing programme covering the North and South campuses and the university's colleges.

Jha asked the government to identify public land for hostel construction and publish deadlines and progress reports. He also called for provisions for women students, students from SC, ST and OBC communities, minority communities, persons with disabilities, economically vulnerable students and those from distant regions.

Jha said the Satya Niketan collapse also raised questions about the condition of civic infrastructure and the functioning of regulatory bodies. He called for greater accountability and urged the Centre to treat the incident as a warning.

He said the government should ensure that students coming to Delhi for education are not forced to live in unsafe buildings because of a shortage of university hostels.

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Three patients have been received at VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital in connection with the Satya Niketan building collapse. A 19-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was admitted for observation, while a 26-year-old man was examined and found clinically stable.

A 47-year-old man, who injured his left hand while rescuing victims, was also admitted for observation. All three patients are currently stable.

We think the building next to the collapsed building has weakened, and it was strengthened through the night. We will take it up for demolition in a calibrated manner in the next 1-2 days."

Delhi building collapse LIVE: Delhi Police has formed 10 separate teams to apprehend Hariram, the alleged owner of the building that collapsed in Satya Niketan.

The teams comprise personnel from the local district police, Special Staff and other operational units. Each team is being led by an officer of Additional DCP rank.

Police are conducting raids across Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to apprehend Hariram, Delhi Police said. (ANI)
