Shimla rape case: No proof of kidnapping, say police

The police, in a statement, said the victim had alleged that some unknown people kidnapped her from a temple near Dhali tunnel.

Even as the alleged rape of 19-year-old girl in a car in Dhali area of state capital has assumed political overtones, Shimla police, on Wednesday, said they found no evidence of the complainant being kidnapped.

The police, in a statement, said the victim had alleged that some unknown people kidnapped her from a temple near Dhali tunnel.

“Footage from close circuit tv cameras (CCTV) installed on the 1.5-km stretch were analysed - in which the victim is seen going on foot but no car can be spotted anywhere,” said deputy superintendent of police headquarter Pramod Shukla.

The victim’s statement has been recorded at a Shimla court under section 164 of CrPC. However, no arrest has been made in the case, yet.

“The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has begun a probe and the magisterial inquiry is also underway against the personnel deployed at Lakkar Bazaar police post for dereliction of duty,” said the police in a written statement issued here today.

CM Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday had ordered a magisterial probe to ascertain the veracity of the crime.

Additional district magistrate, Prabha Rajiv, who is heading the probe, visited Lakkad Bazaar police station on Wednesday to record the statement of the police personnel and staff on duty when the victim had visited the post to register her complaint about possible stalking.

On Monday, a case was registered at Dhalli police station, district Shimla, under IPC section 354A, 366, 376 and 506 on April 29.

In the FIR, the victim mentioned that on the eve of April 28, she had visited police station Lakkar Bazaar Shimla to report possible stalking by a person, where she was advised by police officials present at the station to go to Dhalli police station.
