National Herald case: Sonia Gandhi quizzed for 6 hrs in round 2, summoned again

Sonia Gandhi was questioned for six hours on Tuesday in the round two of questioning in the National Herald case. The Congress continued its protests against the government and the Enforcement Directorate over the probe, alleging that the central investigation agencies were being misused by the central government. The third round of questioning will be held on Wednesday.

Amid the demonstrations on Tuesday, dozens of Congress MPs - including Rahul Gandhi - were detained. Dramatic videos emerged amid the protests.

One of them showed the India Youth Congress chief, Srinivas BV, being pulled with his hair and being pushed into a van in a purported video that showed some security personnel. Later, the Delhi Police was quoted as saying by news agency ANI that staff identity was being confirmed, and action would be taken.

Visuals - earlier in the day - showed Rahul Gandhi sitting on the road in protest. “This is the reality of India that it is a police state, it is the truth... Modiji is a 'raja' (king)," he said after detention.

In post-detention videos, posted by the Congress’s KC Venugopal, the party leaders - including Rahul Gandhi - were seen holding discussions. “We have converted the police detention centre at Kingsway Camp Delhi into a brainstorming session of Congres Parliamentary Party on issues of price rise, Agnipath, GST on food items, national security, the falling rupee & other issues concerning the people of India,” Venugopal tweeted.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi’s questioning in the case began last week. Rahul Gandhi has been questioned in the case earlier too.

Taking a swipe at the party, Union minister Anurag Thakur said that the party was agitating to “save the corrupt”.
