Suspected ULFA member, main accused in Guwahati grenade attack arrested

The suspect was arrested from Doomdooma in Tinsukia district of upper Assam.

The Assam Police said on Tuesday that it has arrested a member of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) who is believed to be the main accused behind the grenade attack outside a shopping mall in Guwahati last week in which eight people were injured.

Police had initially said 11 people were injured in the attack.

Bijoy Asom, who had allegedly hurled the grenade, was nabbed by the police from Doomdooma in Tinsukia district of upper Assam on Tuesday evening. With this the total number of those arrested in connection with the incident has risen to six.

Police had earlier arrested Jahnabi Saikia, a small time actress, a pro-talk ULFA cadre Pranamoy Rajguru and three others from various parts of Assam for their alleged involvement in the incident.
