The interaction took place following the floral tribute function on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary at Parliament's Central Hall. The initiative is a part of the government's ‘know your leader’ programme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with youngsters under the ‘know your leader’ initiative to mark the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the Parliament's Central Hall. The Prime Minister suggested reading biographies about historic personalities and take lessons from their life challenges and the way they overcame them.

Around 31 of the young participants got the opportunity to speak on Netaji's contribution during floral tributes.

Here are the top points about the interaction between PM Modi and the youths:

  1. The initiative is a welcome change from the past practice of inviting only dignitaries to pay floral tributes to national icons in the Parliament, a statement said. Around 80 youths were selected from across the country for the floral tribute function to commemorate Netaji's birth anniversary.
  2. Youngsters were selected through a dedicated programme launched by the central government, know your leader. It is a part of an initiative to instill knowledge and awareness about the lives and contributions of national icons among the youth.
  3. Selection was made through an “elaborative, objective and merit-based” process. The ‘know your leader’ programme organised quizzes on DIKSHA and MyGov platforms, elocution and speech competition at district and state level.
  4. During interaction, PM Modi suggested to meet everyone with attentiveness, even if it is for a brief moment. “We should try to remember the words and faces of everyone we meet. It will build a new attitude in you,” he said.
  5. Talking about the history of the Central Hall, PM Modi told the youngsters that they were sitting on the seats that were used by the founding fathers of the Constitution.
  6. The Prime Minister asked about the experience of participating in the floral tribute function where only dignitaries were allowed earlier. One of the participants said that she realised the real meaning of unity in diversity after being joined by many others from different parts of the country.
  7. PM Modi suggested the youths to keenly observe the surroundings wherever they visit. He also urged to read autobiographies of different icons.
