Watch: Kanwariyas showered with flower petals from chopper by top official in UP
During the yatra, Shiva devotees collect water from the Ganga and offer it to the deity at temples back home.
With the annual pilgrimage of the devotees of Lord Shiva, ‘Kanwar Yatra’ going across the country, senior officials on Monday showered flower petals on kanwariyas in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. Meerut's IG Range Praveen Kumar and DM Deepak Meena took a chopper ride and showered flower petals on them.

Kanwariyas have been greeted warmly across the nation - from Uttarkhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami washing their feet to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath himself showering petals on the Shiva devotees. Main roads have been beautified, cities have been lighted with bright lights, and Kanwar Seva Camps have been established in the western state.
The Kanwar Yatra is being taken out in the state after a gap of two years. Earlier, it was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the yatra, Shiva devotees collect water from the Ganga and offer it to the deity at temples back home.

Earlier in the day, Adityanath also undertook an aerial survey of the ongoing Kanwar yatra in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Ghaziabad districts.
A tweet by his office said Adityanath inspected the arrangements made for the smooth movement of Shiva devotees and directed officials that the devotees and other people should not face any trouble during the yatra.
In a video conference with senior officials, the chief minister directed that health posts be set up at various places along the Kanwar Yatra route. He instructed district magistrates and SPs to personally go to the spot where any untoward incident takes place, news agency PTI reported.
