Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan in June had posted two tweets criticising the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde.

The Supreme Court said on Tuesday it had given Prashant Bhushan time to reconsider his statement and tender an apology but observed that the senior lawyer is still reluctant to apologise for his tweets from June this year.

A three-judge is hearing the contempt of court case against Bhushan for his tweets criticising the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of India, Sharad Arvind Bobde. Bhushan has been held guilty in this case and the court is expected to decide on the punishment to be handed down to Bhushan.

The matter is being heard by justice Arun Mishra, justice BR Gavai and justice Krishna Murari.

Attorney General KK Venugopal requested the court to drop the case against Bhushan and said that it would be a fitting end to the case. The bench contended that the senior lawyer has not realised his mistake.

The bench has already deferred the 2009 contempt of court case against Bhushan and has asked the CJI Bobde to take it in front of an appropriate bench.
