1 lakh unemployed youth given jobs in Kashmir

As many as one lakh unemployed educated youth have been provided job opportunities last year through 14,000 Small Scale industries (SSI) established across 12 districts of Kashmir division, Minister for Industries and Commerce S S Salathia said on Friday.

As many as one lakh unemployed educated youth have been provided job opportunities last year through 14,000 Small Scale industries (SSI) established across 12 districts of Kashmir division, Minister for Industries and Commerce S S Salathia said on Friday.

"14,000 SSI units were set up in 12 districts of Kashmir division, including Leh and Kargil, providing jobs to one lakh unemployed youth," he told officers of his ministry in Srinagar.

He said there are 30 Industrial Estates functioning in the division.

Salathia said the industries and commerce department under the rehabilitation programme has disbursed soft loans of Rs.3.64 crore among 30 sick units for their revival. There are 330 sick units identified in Kashmir division.

He said the government is striving hard to tackle the unemployment problem in the division.
