Raipur superintendent of police Amit Kumar told Hindustan Times that all the recovered live rockets were used by the medium range artilleries and Indian Field Guns as ammunitions.

The traced rockets are rated as high grade explosives used by the artillery guns. They were found in separate boxes inside the goods wagon carrying iron ores for the local based iron and steel industry. The boxes inside the wagon were traced by labourers who later informed the police. The goods train carrying the ores reportedly arrived from Orissa.

“Team of defence experts from Jabalpur are on their way to Chhattisgarh to further investigate”, said the SP.

Meanwhile the Chhattisgarh police began its probe whether it was the case of pilferage or the leakage in the supply chain where the live rockets were sent for specified destination.

“Prima facie I don’t see any suspected role of nefarious design behind it but the police is not taking any chance and the thorough probe is on”, affirmed Amit Kumar.
