2 brothers killed in road mishap in J-K, locals stage protest

Two brothers were killed and nine other passengers injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling turned turtle in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, triggering violent protests by locals, who set the vehicle on fire.

A Tata Sumo carrying 11 people turned turtle on a link road at Arai in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district resulting in the death of two brothers and injuring nine others yesterday, additional superintendent of police (ASP) Poonch, Amit Gupta
said on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Rafiq (7) and Mohamad Shafiq (9). The injured have been hospitalised, he said.

The locals and relatives of the deceased assembled at the spot of accident and held protest against the driver of the
vehicle for rash driving. Irate protestors also torched the vehicle and demanded stern action.

Police and local administration rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters and after assurance and release of ex-gratia by deputy commissioner of Poonch, they lift the dharna, he said.

A case has been registered in this connection and further investigation is on, he said.
