24 tribals die of diarrohea in Orissa districts

At least 24 tribals have died of diarrohea in Orissa's Kalahandi district during the last fortnight, official sources said in Bhawanipatna on Monday.

At least 24 tribals have died of diarrohea in Orissa's Kalahandi district during the last fortnight, official sources said in Bhawanipatna on Monday.

While 13 persons have died in five tribal villages under Bhawanipatna block, four hamlets under Lanjigarh block accounted for 11 deaths, the sources said.

The villages under Bhawanipatna block from where the deaths were reported are: Panchbaheli (6), Jamchuan (3), Tengnabaheli (2) and Rukunibundel and Bundelguda (1 each).

The affected villages under Lanjigarh block are: Ghatikundra (6), Tarangsel (3) and Talbora and Jalkrida (1 each), the sources said.

Kalahandi district collector R S Gopalan claimed that the situation was under control in Lanjigarh block due to intensive measures taken by mobile health teams.

But in Bhawanipatna block it was "alarming" and the situation almost remained unchanged, he said.
