A B Bardhan to be honoured with Vidarbha Bhushan Award

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan will be honoured with the Vidarbha Bhushan award here on February 5 by the newly-formed Vidarbha Foundation, its President and Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies minister, Anil Deshmukh said today.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan will be honoured with the Vidarbha Bhushan award here on February 5 by the newly-formed Vidarbha Foundation, its President and Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies minister, Anil Deshmukh said today.

The award, which carries Rs one lakh, a memento and a scroll of honour will be presented to the veteran leader by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in the presence of High Court Judge, Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari and Legislator Vinayak Mete in a function here.

Bardhan who hails from the city is being conferred with the award for his outstanding contribution in political and trade union fields, Deshmukh told reporters here. Born on September 25, 1925 in Sylhet (now in Bangladesh), Bardhan had represented Nagpur-West constituency in 1957 in the State Legislative Assembly for a full five-year-term.

He had served in various capacities in the left organisation right from its students wing AISF to AITUC and finally the highest post of CPI General Secretary, Deshmukh added.
