Bitter-sweet experiences of life were awaiting the newly-born girl child who had barely spent 45 days on this earth. After being dejected and abandoned by real mother, the innocent being hardly knew that fate would land her in the safe haven of a foster mother's lap.
However, life turned in her favour on account of the efforts of Childline and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) here.
It was March 24 morning when a farmer heard the cries of a child near village Sadwa Mod. His curiosity led him to discover a girl child lying abandoned by the road side.
Unable to resist the urge to help her, the farmer immediately took the child to the village head who informed the police of Industrial Area in Naini. "By this time the news about the child had reached each and every household of the village and the crowd had started gathering at the house of the village head. Among the crowd was also a bank cashier for whom it proved to be a god's gift. He immediately expressed his desire to adopt the child and took her to his home", said SB Pandey, coordinator Childline.
"Our volunteers informed us and we reached the venue. We tried to get information about her whereabouts but could find none. However, with the adoption formalities taking place side by side, it was necessary to inform the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) about it since it handles such issues legally. On being informed by us, Indira Swaroop, president of CWC and Mamta Gupta, member, reached the house of the bank cashier", said Pandey.
"Since it was all in favour of the child, a meeting was called by CWC on March 25 where it was decided to legally hand over the child to the bank cashier and his wife under foster care. And at present the child is under safe care of her 'new' parents", he added.
According to Pandey, the health of the child was not sound and it seemed that earlier she was not looked after properly. "We are satisfied that the child has found herself a new home and the role of CWC in quickly resolving the issue was commendable", said Pandey.
