Allahabad Museum set to have a new look

The addition of Rock Art Gallery, Thanka Gallery and Freedom fighters' Gallery will provide a new look to the museum. According to Dr SK Sharma, director of Allahabad Museum, the Freedom Fighters' Gallery is almost complete and there is plan to open it within three weeks. "The only task left is the preparation of photo captions and write-ups and the rest is complete.

The addition of Rock Art Gallery, Thanka Gallery and Freedom fighters' Gallery will provide a new look to the museum. According to Dr SK Sharma, director of Allahabad Museum, the Freedom Fighters' Gallery is almost complete and there is plan to open it within three weeks. "The only task left is the preparation of photo captions and write-ups and the rest is complete. The gallery deals with the photographs and information about the period from Bahadur Shah Zafar to the time when the Britishers left India," said Dr Sharma.
The walls of the gallery have been adorned with almost 250 photographs.
There are pictures available of the Civil Disobedience Movement, partition of Bengal, Swadeshi movement, Jallianwala Bagh incident, Chauri Chaura incident, Simon Commission's protest and several other pictures throwing light on the historical incidents.
There are also the photographs of Bahadur Shah Zafar, Zeenat Mahal, Tantia Tope, AO Hume, Sir Sayyed Ahmed Khan etc. There are rare photographs of Frontier Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi climbing up a hill, Mahatma Gandhi in Noakhali and more such frames.
Articles on display will be pocket watch of Mahatma Gandhi, register of the Swaraj Party, original manuscripts of Jawaharlal Nehru and letters relating to struggle for freedom.
"The Rock Art Gallery is proposed to be inaugurated by Ambika Soni, Union Minister for Culture by the end of December. This gallery will have the rock art photographs and diormas concerning the man of stone age to the pre-historic age. A lot of research work has been involved in the preparation of this gallery.
We are sure that such type gallery can be found nowhere in the country.
We started working on its concept in the month of April. The dioramas are being prepared by external agencies," added Dr Sharma.
Yet another gallery, Thanka Gallery, is under preparation. It will be studded with the Thanka paintings and the illustrations of the Jatak tales.
"There are old galleries, which need to be renovated. We are gradually working on it and our endeavour is to achieve the national level status," said the director.
