As Andhra Pradesh heralded 'e-polling' with introduction of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in all polling stations, the imperfections of the past came back to haunt election authorities as familiar problems of people not finding their names in voters list cropped up across the state on Tuesday.

Throwing up a paradoxical situation, there was hi-tech polling on one hand and a galore of goof-ups in voters' list on the other as 21 out of 42 Lok Sabha and 147 out of 294 Assembly constituencies went to polls in the first phase.

The most striking was the case of former Chief Minister N Bhaskar Rao who had to return disappointed after his name was missing from the voters list in the upwardly-mobile Jubilee Hills area in the state.

"When I went to cast my vote, I was told that my name is not there in the voters list. What can you call this? A hi-tech fraud?," Rao fumed.
