Atindra Ghosh, an aquarium businessman, who installed about 36 aquaria at the Kanpur zoo, said, “Now-a-days people are crazy about installing aquarium at home, as these lively creatures are best for decorating purpose. But, things are not that easy. Fish need proper cleaning, lighting, food and above all a great deal attention.”
“The cost of aquarium cost depends on its size and the species one selects to keep init. A pair of Gold Butterfly could cost Rs 10 only while species like Discus and Red Parrot could cost more than Rs 1,000, he said.
“People use fresh water for species like Tiger Barb, Oscar fish, Neon Tetra, Red Gold and Black Moore. But, in the coming days, one can witness use of saline water in the aquaria to keep sea fish,” he revealed.
Another dealer Sanjeev Raizada said fish mostly were brought from far of places like Kolkata and Mumbai and the food (protein balls) is imported and it costs around Rs 50 per 120 gm.
He further said that each fish required four balls three times a day. Apart from this, things required for an aquarium are a filter pump to purify water, gravel pump to maintain gravity of water, stones and pebbles and coral reef.
Abhay Shastri, a Vastu follower, believes that he has placed an aquarium at his home for prosperity. He said according to Vastu an aquarium must have eight golden fish and one black golden fish and it must be placed at the right hand side of the entrance.
