Army jawan commits suicide in police custody

A Territorial Army personnel, allegedly involved in a fake currency racket, committed suicide inside the premises of Ram Munshi Bagh police station here on Thursday.

A Territorial Army personnel, allegedly involved in a fake currency racket, committed suicide inside the premises of Ram Munshi Bagh police station here on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Muneer Ahmad Manhas, 31, who was working with the Territorial Army. “In the wee hours, Muneer, a resident of Kamalkote in Uri, prime accused in the fake currency racket was found hanged in the bathroom of police station,” said a police official.

“Munner used a pair of socks to hang himself by tying them with one another,” said police official. “A top district administration officer would probe the hanging,” added the official.

“Body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem to be conducted in presence of the magistrate,” said the official.
