Arrangements reviewed fot Amarnath yatra

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen (retd) SK Sinha on Thursday visited Sheshnag and Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, which falls on the route to the Amarnath cave shrine, to review the arrangements made for the pilgrims there.

Sinha met the state government officials at Sheshnag and was briefed about security and other arrangements for the pilgrims, a spokesman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board said.

The officials told Sinha that 534 tents had been pitched and another 316 were being set up in the next few days to accommodate about 6000 to 8000 pilgrims. Arrangements for sanitaion facilities had also been made.

Nearly, 4371 pilgrims left for the cave shrine from the Baltal base camp, which was opened on Thursday, the spokesman said. Another batch of 84 pilgrims were flown to the cave in choppers, he said.

About 1838 pilgrims have returned to Pahalgam this morning after visiting the shrine, the SASB spokesman added.
