Awards honour movers & shakers of Asian music

Bally Sagoo won outstanding achievement award at the UK Asian Music Awards gala night.

Bally Sagoo wins the Outstanding Achievement Award

Bhangra beats and Asian music that have become a mainstay in the UK, were celebrated at the UK Asian Music Awards (AMA) ceremony in London on Wednesday night.



Showcasing the country's Urban Asian Music Scene, the gala event was held at at Po Na Na, Hammersmith, jointly hosted by the Radio 1 presenter, Nihal and Zee TV's music presenter, Sangeeta.

Bally Sagoo, who has won popularity in India, won the award for outstanding achievement. The best group award went to B21, while the KISS UK AMA for Best Club DJ was given to Hip Hop/R&B Smooth-D. The Best Club DJ awards went to Bhangra RDB and House/Garage Deejay "S". The Eastern Eye UK AMA for Best Album was won by Gubi Sandhu - Dil Karda.

Rishi Rich who has made a big impact in the Asian music scene in Britain won the award for the Best Producer. The Best Single award for R&B Rishi Rich Project feat went to Jay Sean & Juggy D - "Dance With You".

Television channel B4U Music awarded Bhangra PMC for the Best Single - Mundian to Bachke. Shaanti Collective took the HMPS UK AMA for Best Asian Underground Act. The Urban X Street UK AMA for Best MC were given to Metz & Trix while the Me Media Group awarded Apache Indian, who has had his heydays for Best International Success. Snoop, won the Brasian Best Asian Magazine award and the Best Asian website awards went to www.wass-up.com and www.soasians.com.

The BBC Asian Network was awarded the Best Asian Radio Station, the Best Radio DJ went to Panjabi Hit Squad. Markie Mark won the Metropolitan Police UK AMA for Commitment to the Scene Award. Indy Sagu won the Radio 1 award for Best Newcomer.

The awards were presented by So Solid's Romeo, Radio 1's Tim Westwood, MTV's Tim Kash, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Meera Syal, Nina Wadia, Preeya Khalidas, Kiss 100's Big Ted & Shortee Blitz and Big Brother's Narinder Kaur.
