BHU hosts lecture on Indian culture

“SPIRITUAL VALUE system of India is in the core of its national culture,” said Prof Ashok Kumar Mukhopadhyaya of Political Science Department, Calcutta University.

Delivering a lecture on ‘National Culture of India’ at Malviya Centre for Peace Research in Banaras Hindu University here on Tuesday, he said national culture is the way of life of a nation. Political Science Department in Social Science faculty had organised the lecture.

“Tolerance and assimilation along with pluralistic nature of Indian society with tenets of decentralisation are the important aspects of Indian culture,” he said. “Within one national culture, multiple cultures exist in India,” he added.

“True secularism, rule of law and separation of State from society is the panacea for maintaining peace and tranquility in the Indian society,” Mukhopadhyaya observed.

Head of Political Science Department (BHU), Prof Anjoo Sharan Upadhyaya presided over the function. Prof Upadhyaya gave formal introduction of Prof AK Mukhopadhyay and welcomed the guests. Prof Manju Kumar proposed a formal vote of thanks.

Among other prominent scholars who were present on the occasion included, Prof Priyanker Upadhyaya, Dr RP Shahi, Dr Sanjay Srivastava, Dr Ashok Upadhyaya, Dr AN Mohanty, Dr Sonali Singh, Dr Abhinav Sharma and Dr KK
Suan.
