The party’s city president Kailash Kesari said the campaign had covered 20 wards and would be extended to another 70 in 10 days. He said the campaign was conducted at Lanka, Siddhgiri Bagh, Devki Nandan Haveli, Ashiyana Complex, Assi and Habibpura localities on Sunday.
Thousands of people had already signed on banners, he said, adding the party had set a target of a lakh signatures. “After the signature campaign, all the banners will be displayed in the city. Later, they will be forwarded to the Governor for dismissal of the State Government,” he said.
Meanwhile, BJP MLC Kedar Nath Singh criticised the State Government for not ensuring adequate power supply in Varanasi district. He was speaking during the signature campaign in the Lanka area.
“Despite the religious and cultural importance of Varanasi, the State Government is not ensuring adequate power supply to it. But, Mainpuri, Etawah, Ghazipur and Mau are getting adequate power supply,” he said. He demanded immediate dismissal of the Mulayam Singh Government.
Other BJP leaders including Shardanand Pandey, Ram Sunder Mishra, Sudhir Mishra, Satish Rai and Vikas Mishra said the Mulayam Singh Government had lost faith of the public and had no right to remain in office.
