BJP owes its election victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to the "charisma" of Prime Minister AB Vajpayee, DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu chief ministerM Karunanidhi said on Thursday.
"It is a victory for the charisma of Prime Minister Vajpayee," Karunanidhi told reporters in Chennai.
But Karunanidhi remained non-committal on whether the results would affect his party's own alliance with the BJP. The DMK is BJP's ally only at the Centre, and not at the state level, he said.
Karunanidhi also spoke about a petition he presented to Vajpayee on Wednesday on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's "continued intervention in the judiciary".
If the Jaya government continued this trend, the state would become a fit case for the imposition of Article 356, he said. He would be happy if Vajpayee "warned or took action" against the state government.
