"General (Pervez) Musharraf, the President of Pakistan took upon himself to ban the madrassas for proper maintenance of law and order there, but in total contrast to his decision, here in Maharashtra the state government has set up a special board for the madrassas," BJP state unit President Nitin Gadkari told reporters in Pune.

The number of madrassas in the state was over 5,000 and some 2.5 lakh boys in them were taking education whose curriculum was questionable, the BJP leader said.

He also alleged that the state government has quite reconciled to the fact that it can do very little to control the growth of madrassas.

The Congress-led governments at the Centre and state had promised of making Mumbai a Shanghai. But all that they had done is to turn it into another Srinagar, Gadkari said.

Despite the Centre giving adequate information about the probability of terrorist attacks in Maharashtra, no preventive action was taken because of lack of coordination between the Chief Minister and the deputy Chief Minister, Gadkari alleged, adding that the number of bomb blasts in the state has increased to 110 ever since the DF coalition assumed the reins of power.

The BJP leader also termed the Prime Minister's package for poverty-hit Vidarbha farmers as ineffectual because the number of farmers committing suicide has doubled after it was announced on July 1.
