"The Congress should bring a bill in Parliament and the BJP should support it. This is the only solution to the temple issue," he said.

He claimed that late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had taken the initiative of trying to solve the temple issue.

"After visiting Ayodhya, he started electioneering. Even the Babri Masjid was demolished during the Congress regime of PV Narasimha Rao and BJP leader Kalyan Singh was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at that time," he said.

Criticising the BJP, the Shankaracharya said that the party had remained in power for a number of years but still had not solved the Ayodhya tangle.

Commenting on the Swami Ramdev issue where CPI-M leader Brinda Karat had alleged that human and animal parts were used in ayurvedic medicines manufactured at the yoga guru's Hardwar pharmacy, he claimed that the Left parties were faced with an embarrassing situation after the other political parties sided with the yoga guru.
