A new study has shown that school kids in Britain smoke cigarettes because they enjoy it and not because their pals say it’s cool.
The 11-year study has found that kids are likely to try cigs if someone at home smokes. In the research involving 250 children from the age of five to 16, many admitted they smoke to relieve stress, or because they like doing it.
The findings revealed that almost 99 pct of the youngsters who smoked regularly lived with at least one smoker, reports The Sun. Moreover, people who smoke as kids are at three-fold risk of dying prematurely than those starting at 20.
Many kids took up cigarettes aged 12 to 13, but the peak age for smoking was 15. Researcher Dr Susan Woods, from Liverpool John Moores University said the study had gained “vital information” to help identify youngsters most at risk.
