The condition of more than 20 persons is reported critical.
'Jallikattu', an ancient form of bull-fighting, is being held all across the state as a part of Pongal celebrations.
Though the police had made elaborate arrangements at the venue, they had a tough time controlling more than one lakh people who had gathered to witness the event.
There were about 300 bulls from different parts of Tamil Nadu at Jallikattu.
It is an event wherein the participant holds onto the hump of the bull for a certain distance and one who travels longest is declared the winner. The prize money or articles carried by the bull is given to him.
