Camel sacrifice thwarted by admn

POLICE AND district administration prevented slaughter of camels at public places on the occasion of Bakri Id today. The administration had received reports that camels would be slaughtered at Urdu Maidan in Hathipala, Sadar Bazaar, Khajrana and Bombay Bazaar. As police and administration swung into action, members of minority community decided to withdraw. However, none was apprehended.

As police and administration swung into action, members of minority community decided to withdraw. However, none was apprehended.

While there was talk that the camels were slaughtered at discreet places, administration denied any incidents occurring in public. According to information, Additional Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh Chaudhary prevented camel slaughter at Juna Risala. Area resident Kalim Bhai bought a camel for Rs 15,000 for the ritual, but it could not be butchered.

Three camels at Bombay Bazaar, too, were brought for ritual, but were prevented from being killed. People for Animals, Indore branch, had taken cognizance of reports that camels were being brought into the City for ceremonial massacre. It contacted administration for preventive measures yesterday.
