The Centre has decided to give wheat farmers bonus in addition to Minimum Support Price for their produce this procurement season to improve their economic position.

Announcing the scheme, Minister of State for Agriculture, Food and Civil Supplies Akhilesh Prasad Singh said this was the first time that the Central Government would be granting bonus along with the support price of wheat to the farmers in the country.

The objective of this scheme was to strengthen the financial position of the wheat farmers, as they were the backbone of the country by making it as self-reliant in food grains, he said while talking to mediapersons at Ganaur, 16 km from Sonepat, on Monday.

The Minister called upon the farmers to diversify the crop pattern and also sow cash crops to improve their income.
