Govind Nagar police rushed to the spot and after detaining the clerks and the boys, brought them at Govind Nagar police station.

The police have identified the clerks as Pradeep Yadav, a resident of Gujaini, and Ashok Pal, a resident of Gwaltoli.

The children have been identified as Gaurav (13), Vinod Kumar Sahu (11), Rahul Gupta (12) and Mohd Rafi (15). All are residents of Banda district.

At the Govind Nagar Police Station, the boys said that they had fled from Banda some four days back and were returning to their houses on Friday.

When the boys were standing at Kanpur Central Railway Station, Pradeep and Ashok who had returned from Lucknow spotted the four children sitting on the platform. The clerks asked the boys about their details. On knowing that boys had fled from their houses, the two clerks intimidated the four boys to pay them Rs 10,000 otherwise they would tell the police about them.

Though the boys had little amount in their possession but they followed the directives of the clerks with the fear of getting detained by police looming large before them.

The clerks then brought them out of the station, put them on a rickshaw and took the boys to the Govind Nagar Park.

According to the police, the clerks in their statement said that the boys are pick-pockets and in the past they had received money from the boys when they acted on the same line. Police also said that both Pradeep and Ashok revealed before police that they were drug addicts and to arrange for drugs, they tried to get some money out of them.

Meanwhile, police said it would once again interrogate the clerks and boys and have sought details about the boys from Banda police.
