Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday stayed the directions of the Election Commission regarding removal of hoardings which had been erected from public exchequer money upto November 20 last year.

The stay was granted by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice BK Roy and Justice Surya Kant on a petition filed by National Consumer Awareness Group, Chandigarh.
The bench also gave time to the Chief Election Commissioner to file a reply by April 14 and posted the case for April 15.
The EC had on March 8 directed all state governments and Union territories to remove the hoardings within 24 to 48 hours.
