He was received by minister of state Feroz Khan, who represents Zanskar constituency and chief executive councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalie.

Zanskar is the only Buddhist-dominated tehsil in the Kargil district. People from Muslim and Buddhist communities lined up along the road from Zanskar helipad to Photang where The Dalai Lama will be staying and preaching from for three days.

The minister requested The Dalai Lama to make an appeal for communal harmony. There have been incidents of communal violence between Buddhist and Muslim communities in Zanskar for quite some time.

Lakhs of people are expected to attend the Kalachakara at Leh for which special arrangements are being made.
