The 145-bed Dufferin Women's Hospital which is all set to convert into 200-bed speciality hospital after construction of new units by UPHSDP, is facing worst ever crisis of doctors due to which many health and emergency facilities are not reaching the poor women specially the pregnants.
Against the sanctioned posts of 17 doctors, only 11 doctors including gynaecologists, anaesthetist and paediatrician are posted at the hospital.
To manage the patients at OPD as many as six doctors are required.
But in the absence of required strength the remaining doctors are forced to do overtime. Only 10 to 12 major surgeries are being reportedly conducted daily due to the staff crisis.
The main OT is also yet to function. Moreover the bed occupancy has also reportedly dropped in the last few months.
Despite a women's hospital it is also facing the security problem.
Due to this a large number of women from Nakhas Kohna, Khuldabad, Chowk, Kareli, Attarsuiya are forced to take treatment at the SRN Hospital.
Superintendent-in-charge Dr Meenu Sagar admitted that in the absence of required number of doctors the services were getting affected.
"If all the posts, are filled up we will be in a position to provide best emergency and health services to women in the entire Allahabad district.
However, the OPD and other services are still being managed with the help of dedicated team of doctors," she said.
Dr Sagar said they have also repeatedly requested the district magistrate and SSP to provide security to the hospital. "We are also considering to take the services of home guards," she added.
