In her remarks before the house took up the discussion under Rule 193, Mahajan said that MPs provide leadership to people and hoped the discussion will go in the right direction.

“The country has some questions, hope the discussion will give a positive direction and that’s why it has been accepted,” the speaker said.

She hoped the members will understand their responsibility and “at least not show intolerance here”.

Officials said that discussion in the house under Rule 193 does not entail voting.
