Doe-eyed beauty wins Miss World crown

When Unnur Birna was crowned Miss Iceland 2005, perhaps no one was happier than her mom, Unnur Steinsson, Miss Iceland 1983 and the first woman from her country to have become a Miss World finalist (4th runner-up).
Unnur's participation and victory in Iceland's national beauty pageant, was also inspired by her grandmother, a socialite and traditional fashion designer in Iceland, responsible for creating the gown in which Linda Pettursdottir was crowned Miss World 1988 (Iceland's 2nd Miss World).
"My grandmother was a wonderfully strong woman with a will to succeed and I have been lucky enough to inherit that determination," said Unnur Birna. "That attitude made her successful in all that she attempted and brought her great fortune in life. She has been a great inspiration to me, and to my mother before
me. Without their guidance and the support of my entire family, I would not be standing her today as Miss World."
As she enters her reign as Miss World 2005, Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir has revealed the makings of a role model for all young people around the globe. Hers is a real-life fairy tale, which bears the hallmarks of a classic tear-jerker, complete with family joy and sorrow, and a heart warming happy ending.
The 21-year-old describers herself as an "organised, ambitious and good-humoured" person, won the hearts and minds of the judges at the glittering finals of the 55th Miss World contest, held for a record third time in Sanya. She said her motto is, "You are what you do."
