CPI General Secretary AB Bardhan on Monday claimed that the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA), which included the Congress and Left parties, was poised for a good victory in the ensuing Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Addressing the press conference in Tiruchirapalli on Monday, the senior CPI leader said "Madam Jayalalithaa might be trying all sorts of gimmicks. But the sheer weight of arithmetic is in our favour."
The people had also been attracted by what had been promised and what was stated in the election manifestos of the alliance parties. People had experienced five years AIADMK rule and many sections had been attacked by the Jayalalithaa government, he alleged.
Bardhan however termed as a correct and good step Jayalalithaa's decision to go to court against the decision of the Cauvery Tribunal to order the constitution of an expert committee.
The Tribunal should take a decision on the basis of the voluminous documents collected so far and give its final award, he said.
