Dress shirts are in for women
Another item of men's clothing has been successfully assimilated into a woman's wardrobe, reports Pria Agni.Updated: Aug 01, 2008 15:19 IST
Anna Kournikova sparked off a controversy with her dress shirt inspired Nike outfit at a tournament. Now the dress shirt is in every store.
So, what is a dress shirt? It is a dressy white shirt with pin tucks running parallel to the button panel, sometimes referred to as a yoke. This is the only part of the shirt which shows when one is wearing a tuxedo jacket over it. It is normally starched and has a stand-up collar or a separate collar which can be attached with a bow tie.
In its feminine avatar, the dress shirt comes in all shades, from tangerine to black, with or without prints and fancy buttons.
All the way down
The pin tucks start at the shoulders and end anywhere, from the waist to the knees, if it is a dress shirt. Women are wearing these with belts clinched high under the bosom or with waist chains slung low on the hips.
A dress shirt looks great with skinny jeans and flared skirts. Ornamental pin tucks and a dressy fabric turn it into party wear.
A few modifications like zig-zag pin tucks or graduated and fine pin tucks add to the appeal.
