Drugged Sheena Bora bit Rai’s thumb while being strangled: CBI
The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) charge sheet in the Sheena Bora murder case reveals details of her murder, allegedly planned by her mother Indrani Mukherjea, including how she was drugged in the back seat of a car and briefly regained consciousness to bite driver Shyamwar Rai’s thumb while she was being strangled. According to the CBI’s charge sheet, Indrani roped in Rai and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna for the murder. As a safety measure, she decided to avoiding talking to her alleged accomplices on the phone and got Kajal Sharma, her personal assistant, to teach Rai how to use Skype. Sharma created a Skype account for Rai and taught him to use it.

According to the CBI’s charge sheet, Indrani roped in Rai and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna for the murder. As a safety measure, she decided to avoiding talking to her alleged accomplices on the phone and got Kajal Sharma, her personal assistant, to teach Rai how to use Skype. Sharma created a Skype account for Rai and taught him to use it.
The charge sheet claims that once Rai was able to use Skype without Sharma’s help, Indrani took him into confidence and revealed her plan to kill both Sheena and her brother Mikhail. Next, she told Sharma and Rai that she would be in Mumbai on April 24, 2012. She instructed Sharma to arrange a car for her from AM Travels in Worli and to get the family’s flat in Marlow Building, Worli, cleaned.
Pradeep Waghmare, who was told to clean the flat, was instructed not to visit the residence after the cleanup. Sharma then gave Rai Rs 5,000 on Indrani’s instructions to buy fuel and other things that would later be used in the murder. He also visited a forest in Khopoli to find a suitable place to dispose the body.
On arriving in Mumbai, Indrani first went to Khopoli and Raigad to finalise the spot where the body would be disposed of. “After visiting Lonawala, Penn-Khopoli road and Raigadh, they bought two large bags on their way back to Mumbai and put them in the boot of the car. The same, evening Indrani told Sheena to meet her in Khar the next day, saying she had an engagement gift for her.
On April 24, the day of the murder, Indrani visited a chemist and a wine shop. She bought a bottle of vodka, one of whiskey and two small bottles of water. She also bought six bottles of sedatives, a pair of handcuffs, two pairs of men’s shoes and one pair of women’s shoes. She then mixed the sedatives with alcohol and water. The sedatives, a firearm Rai had brought from Kolkata, and the two large bags were put in the car. In the evening, Indrani and Rai met Khanna near National College in Bandra.
Meanwhile, Rahul picked up Sheena from her office and dropped her to Khar, where Indrani and the others were waiting for her. Rahul left and Sheena got into the car, upon which she was offered the spiked drink. She began to feel drowsy and her eyes closed as the car headed towards Pali Hill.
Rai then stopped the car and he and Khanna got into the back seat, where Indrani was sitting with Sheena. According to the charge sheet, Indrani strangulated Sheena while Rai covered her mouth and Khanna held her by the hair. While she was being strangled, Sheena regained consciousness and bit Rai’s thumb. He began to bleed and got back into the driver’s seat while Indrani and Khanna killed Sheena. Khanna then left, while Indrani instructed Rai to take the car, with Sheena’s body in it, to Marlow Building after dropping her to Taj Land’s End in Bandra.
