Ethnic Indian Doctor gets traditional Malaysian title

Ethnic Indian doctor Subrahmanyam Balan is among the recipients of this year’s traditional Malaysian title announced in conjunction with the Sultan of Johor’s birthday on Wednesday.

Ethnic Indian doctor Subrahmanyam Balan is among the recipients of this year’s traditional Malaysian title announced in conjunction with the Sultan of Johor’s birthday on Wednesday.

Dr Subrahmanyam Balan, head of anaesthology at Sultanah Aminah Hospital will receive the Darjah Mahkota Johor Yang Amat Mulia Pangkat Pertama Datuk Seri Paduka Mahkota Johor (SPMJ) award, which also carries the title “Datuk”, The Star newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Titles will be awarded to all winners at a ceremony at Istana Besar.

The titles, conferred annually by the country’s royal chiefs on their birthdays, cover people from all walks of life.
