In her dying statement, the daughter, Mariselvi, told her mother, Lakshmi, that M. Rangaswami gave her a shot each in her right arm and left leg while his two employees kept a tight grip on her.

Rangaswami told the police after his arrest on Wednesday: “I decided to kill her since it was a matter of family honour.” Mariselvi’s “fault” was she had eloped a couple of times. Rangaswami tried to make his daughter see reason. He took this step when all efforts failed.
