As many as fifty HIV positive cases have been detected and two persons have died due to the infection so far in Mainpuri district in the current year, the district Chief Medical Officer RK Gupta said on Saturday.

The numbers have created a flutter among health department officials in Uttar Pradesh who are now vowing to speed up their work in educating people to create awareness about the dreaded disease, Gupta said.
The department has launched an AIDS awareness drive in the district to enable the local people to take preventive steps and curb the spread of the disease, the medical officer said.
