JUSTICE AK Yog has said, “The future of a nation rests on its children.”
Speaking as chief guest at a seminar on child labour organised by Kompal Welfare Trust he said the nation would grow if its children were healthy and educated.
He appreciated the work done by the Kompal Welfare Trust to uplift the poor and neglected children.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof KN Bhatt of the GB Pant Social Science Institute said the rehabilitation of child labour was neglected. Every person had the right to lead a human life, he added. After globalisation, the problem of child labour became more serious, and no efforts were made for their rehabilitation, he said.
Deputy Labour Commissioner AK Rai said the Kompal Welfare Trust was genuinely working for improving the status of slum children by educating them and motivating them to lead a healthy life.
Secretary Dr Vidula Dilip presented annual report of the trust. “The trust has adopted four slum bastis for welfare activities. In the beginning, only 17 children were associated with the trust. But within a year, the number increased to 150,” she said.
Dr Vidula said the trust was also imparting vocational training to 50 children and organised Bhavishya Jyoti scholarship. The vocal test of students was also conducted, she said.
