Gadkari not to contest parliamentary elections for three years

Newly elected BJP President Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said he would not contest parliamentary elections during his tenure as the party chief. Gadkari, presently a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council, said he would retain the same national executive that was headed by his predecessor Rajnath Singh.

"I will not fight any parliamentary election during my three-year tenure as National BJP president. I have already made clear that my agenda will be politics of development," Gadkari told reporters in an informal chat here.

On future programmes, Gadkari said he would address a press conference on December 24 in Delhi to spell out the party's policies.

Gadkari, presently a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council, said he would retain the same national executive that was headed by his predecessor Rajnath Singh.

Earlier, Gadkari was accorded a grand welcome by party workers and office bearers on his arrival to the city after becoming the BJP chief.

BJP state leader Kirit Somayya, Hansraj Aher, MP (Chandrapur) and a number of Vidarbha BJP legislators including Chainsukh Sancheti, Sudhakarrao Deshmukh, Davendra Phadanvis, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, City Mayor Maya Iwnate and former MP Banwarilal Purohit were present at the airport to receive him.
